| David M. Perry is currently Visiting Assistant Professor of History
at Macalester College. Professor Perry received his Ph.D from the University of Minnesota where he defended his dissertation, entitled "Mirabilia in mari veniendo:" Venice, Stolen Relics, and the Aftermath of the Fourth Crusade in September 2006. His advisors were K.Reyerson and Michael Lower. Prior to that David earned a Masters Degree in History at Minnesota in 1999 and a Bachelors Degree in History in 1995 from Wesleyan University. David has spent the last year and a half (2004-2006) teaching at St. Olaf College in their History Department. Before that, he taught as an instructor and teaching assistant at the University of Minnesota. He also worked as the undergraduate advisor and website designer for the Institute of Global Studies, as a T.A. for the Human Rights Law program, and Global Studies senior paper. David has presented his research at several academic conferences throughout the United States (as well as in Turkey) and he is the author of a chapter in a forthcoming volume edited by Thomas Madden, as well as a book review for Medieval Encounters and several forthcoming reference publications for the World History Encyclopedia. Academically, both his teaching and his scholarship examine cross-cultural contact and conflict, particularly in the medieval and early modern Mediterranean world. At Macalester this year, he will be teaching classes on Jihad and Crusade, the Silk Road, Venice and the Turks, Discovering World History, and the Viking World.
