These are labors of the night, for we have borrowed the hours owed to sleep and spent the better part of them on our writing. Another man, it is true, might have used his watch better, but I felt an obligation to my mind, which took delight in the task. - Pope Pius II (c. 1462)

About Crusades-Encyclopedia

Posted April 23, 2005-
The purpose of
crusades-encyclopedia.com is to offer quick reference to various terms related to the crusading movement. Additionally, this site offers catagorized links to online scholarly material about the crusades as a starting point for further research. Although this website is simply a hobby, it is intended that it will serve as a relatively trustworthy tool in the use of online material for the serious student or enthusiast of the crusades. A special emphasis will be placed on presenting sources and materials from academics and specialists in the study of the crusades. Work on the Crusades-Encyclopedia website began in April of 2005 and will likely never end. Updates will be made periodically on those rare occasions when the editor finds the energy to do so.

Although references to online crusades material from non scholarly sources will be kept to a minimum, there will be occasions when the editor of this collection will recognize value in its inclusion on this site. The origin of such sources will always be clearly noted.

Any links to materials on the web, or reproductions of such materials, without proper citations of the source are unintentional and will be corrected upon notification. Additionally, a sincere effort has been made to respect copyright laws during the construction and ongoing maintenance of this project. Please notify the editor over any concerns about violations of copyright law and they will be addressed immediately. Please email any comments, complaints, or suggestions to
