Scholars, as opposed to popular writers, are defined here by their having been professionally trained in historical research at the PHD level and by their affiliation with a University or College in a scholarly capacity. Not all scholars included here necessarily focused (or focus) on the Crusades, but all have in some way contributed valuable scholarship or have influenced popular perceptions of the crusades.
