Niall Christie
Dr. Niall Christie is unique among western scholars of the crusades for his expertise in Arabic. Arabic is not commonly mastered by western crusades scholars who often instead focus on obtaining a mastery of Latin and sometimes Greek. Dr. Christie is currently employed as a Lecturer and Research Associate at the University of British Columbia. He holds Masters Degrees in Islamic History and Arabic, and earned his PHD in Islamic History from the University of St. Andrews in 1999.

Among his more interesting works in progress are his translation of Ali ibn Tahir al Sulami's call for Jihad in his
Kitab al Jihad written in the wake of the First Crusade. Selections of the work are available online and linked below. More information on this work can be found at the University of British Columbia's projects page. He is involved in various other works on the crusades as well, including the forthcoming Preaching Holy War:Crusade and Jihad, 1096-1105, with Debra Gerish under contract with Ashgate Press.
