Dr. Crawford is perhaps best known for his online essays available on ORB:  The Online Reference Book for Medieval Studies.  (http://www.the-orb.net/.)  The website is among the most trusted of online resources for medievalists, as it was created and edited by several professional medievalists who have made significant contributions to the study of the Middle Ages. He is also known from his television appearances as he appeared in the History Channel documentary on the Children’s Crusade, which aired in 2000 as well as the more recent showing of Lost Worlds (summer 2006).

Although Dr. Crawford is perhaps best known for his many online articles, he has also published a book, articles, encyclopedia entries, and reviews on topics concerning the crusades and other areas of history.  He is currently working on a journal article on the involvement of the University of Paris in the trial of the Templars as well as a book on the Templars and Hospitallers.
