| Usama Ibn Munqidh | ||||||||||
| The Syrian writer and warrior Usama Ibn Munqidh lived from 1095 until his death during the peak of Saladin's triumphs in 1188. During his life he had extensive contact with crusaders in the Holy Land, befriending some of them, as well as close connections with the Amirs of Syria and Caliphs of Egypt. His primary work most useful to students of the crusades is his autobiography, Kitab al-I tibar, of which the surviving manuscript is incomplete and dates to around 1175.
