William Urban
Crusades historian William Urban, the Monmouth College Lee L. Morgan Professor of History and International Studies, is one of the top U.S. experts on the Baltic Crusades and the Teutonic Order. Dr. Urban has won numerous awards for his scholarship and sometimes his expertise is demonstrated in fields other than the crusades. For example, Dr. Urban won the Harry E. Pratt award from the Illinois State Historical Society in 1998 for his work on the American West, specifically Wyatt Earp's father, Nicholas P. Earp.

In 2000, for his efforts on the crusades, Dr. Urban won the Vitols Award for the best article of 1998 in the
Journal of Baltic Studies. He is also the former editor of the Journal of Baltic Studies from 1990-1994 and the former book review editor from 1994-2000. Prior to beginning his teaching career at Monmouth College in 1966, he taught as an Assistant Professor at the University of Kansas 1965-1966.

Dr. Urban's pursued his education in such diverse places as Texas, Germany, Poland, and Yugoslavia. Serious students of the crusades on any level will quickly became familier with Dr. Urban's work, especially students of the Northern Crusades.
